Using Our Mobile Kinesiology Service for ICBC-Approved Rehabilitation:
Here’s What You Need to Know
If you've recently been involved in a motor vehicle accident in British Columbia and are considering rehabilitation, you may be wondering how kinesiology can support your recovery. The impacts of accidents can range from minor discomfort to more significant pain, affecting mobility and overall well-being.
Thanks to ICBC’s Enhanced Care program, you can access up to 12 weeks of treatment immediately after your accident, regardless of fault. This coverage allows you to start your rehabilitation right away using your ICBC claim number.
Here’s how kinesiology fits into your ICBC treatment plan and how you can access our mobile service to help with your recovery.
What Does Kinesiology Offer for Recovery After a Motor Vehicle Accident?
Kinesiology is a branch of healthcare that focuses on restoring physical function, improving strength, and supporting injury recovery. Our kinesiologists will assess your injuries and create a personalized plan to help you recover, focusing on:
Pain management: Through movement strategies and tailored exercises that target pain relief.
Improving mobility and flexibility: Restoring joint and muscle function, and helping you move more freely in daily activities.
Strengthening muscles: Custom exercises designed to stabilize joints and improve overall function.
Self-care education: Teaching you strategies to manage pain and aid in your recovery even between sessions.
Kinesiology takes a comprehensive, whole-body approach to rehabilitation, which is important in preventing further injuries and supporting a full recovery.
ICBC’s Process for Accessing Kinesiology Services
Here’s how the process works when you access kinesiology treatment through ICBC:
Report Your Accident to ICBC
After your accident, make sure to report the incident to ICBC as soon as possible. Once your claim is submitted, you’re automatically covered for up to 12 weeks of rehabilitation treatments.Provide Your ICBC Claim Number
In order for us to begin your treatment, we’ll need your ICBC claim number and the contact details of your ICBC adjuster. This allows us to coordinate your treatment and ensure your plan is approved.ICBC Coverage for Initial Treatment
Under Enhanced Care, you can begin treatment without waiting for pre-approval. This means you don’t have to worry about delays before starting your rehabilitation process.Payment and Receipts
Since we cannot directly bill ICBC at this time, you will pay for your sessions upfront. Once your session is complete, we will provide you with a receipt, which you can then submit to ICBC for reimbursement. ICBC will cover the costs based on their fee schedule, so it’s helpful to keep all receipts and documentation for submission.Ongoing Treatment Approval
After the initial treatment period (up to 12 weeks), if further sessions are required, we will create a treatment plan that outlines your continued need for kinesiology services. This plan will be submitted to ICBC for approval, allowing you to access additional sessions if needed.
How Kinesiology Helps with Common Accident-Related Injuries
Kinesiology can be beneficial in managing and recovering from common motor vehicle accident injuries, including:
Whiplash: A common neck injury caused by sudden movement. Kinesiology can help manage stiffness, pain, and range of motion.
Sprains and Strains: Soft tissue injuries involving muscles or ligaments. Exercises and stretches can aid in recovery and flexibility.
Back Pain: Kinesiology helps strengthen core muscles, improve flexibility, and reduce back pain caused by accidents.
